The Racing Game

Step 5: Thoroughbred Retirement

After years of thrilling racing fans, Thoroughbreds often have productive second careers when their racing days are over. Some racehorses may retire to a farm and have lucrative careers as stallions or broodmares. Many are taught new skills and go on to compete in hunter-jumper and dressage events. Others are simply retired to loving families as pleasure horses or companion animals.

The Racing Game encourages owners and trainers to investigate the many avenues now available for retiring Thoroughbreds past their racing prime and applauds those organizations dedicated to placing retired animals in good homes.
